G. A. Henty (1832-1902)
Born a sickly child in Trumpington, near Cambridge, England, George Alfred Henty spent much of his young years confined to a bed, and passed the hours by reading. His love of literature of subjects of all kinds he carried into his adulthood and aided him well in his own writing. He graduated from Cambridge University, and later served in several British wars throughout the empire. In 1859 he married and had four children to whom he wrote and read his stories. His most famous works are his literature for boys, just as Beric the Briton and The Cat of Bubastes. The stalwart morality and courage of his characters continue to endear his writing to readers. The author died while on his yacht in Dorset, and he is buried at Brompton Cemetery in London.
